Haiti - Diplomacy : President Martelly in South Africa

This Monday, December 9, President Michel Martelly, accompanied among others by his wife, Sophia Martelly, Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senator Andris Riché (Grand Anse), will leave the country in the direction of Johannesburg, South Africa, to pay a last tribute to former South African President, a symbol of the anti-apartheid, Nelson Mandela.

The state funeral will be held Tuesday, December 10, at the Soccer City stadium, with a capacity of 94,000 people, in the "township" of Soweto. From the four corners of the world, 53 Heads of State and Government have confirmed their attendance for this last tribute.

The remains of "Madiba" will then be forwarded in procession in the capital (Pretoria) Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, before being buried, Sunday, Dec. 15 in Qunu, his home village, according to his last wishes.

Haiti as the first black republic in the world, intends to make a heartfelt tribute to this symbol of the universal struggle for equality of the human races and democracy.

The President and the Haitian official delegation will return to Haiti on Friday.
