Haiti - Tourism : Haiti present in the second largest tourist fair in the world

Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism has left the country on Monday to Madrid for the 34th edition of the second world's largest tourism fair (FITUR) to which participates Haiti (for the second year) from 21 to 24 January (Stand 3B09B), in order to increase the visibility of Haiti on the European stage and attract new investment in the sector.

The Haitian delegation is accompanied among others by Gregory Mevs, who co-chairs with Bill Clinton the Presidential Advisory Council on Economic Growth and Investment (PACEGI). The delegation plans to meet with investors in the Spanish tourism sector, including owners of large hotel chains like Iberostar, RIU, Barceló, etc... Working meetings are also planned with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

On the sidelines of FITUR, the Minister Villedrouin, will participate in roundtable discussions with authorities of several other destinations and will meet Mr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of the UNWTO.

Recall that the FITUR takes place every year in Madrid at the initiative of the Fair of Madrid (IFEMA). Its pavilions are dedicated to participating destinations, which exhibit their attractions and points of interest for international tourism. As a reminder, in 2013, 8,979 exhibitors from 167 countries participated in the Tourism Fair to which also took part 116.157 professionals and 7,212 journalists from 59 countries.

Promoting Haiti remains a priority intervention of the tourist recovery policy of the Ministry, which continues to increase the presence of the destination in the major events of the Travel and Tourism industry. The "Caribbean Market Place" in Montego Bay, Jamaica (January 12-14) and the Fair Transat Florida (January 16) opened this year, the campaign to promote Haiti in major international tourism fairs.
