Haiti - Politic : The Government will respond to the urgent needs of the Turtle Island

Friday, on visit on the Turtle Island, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe at the head of a large delegation composed of Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture, Ms. Marie Rose-Anne Auguste Carmele, Delegate Minister human rights and the fight against extreme poverty, Senators LucasSaint-Vil and Mr. Mélius Hyppolite, of deputy Acilus Gros-Nègre, Emmanuel Remy,Departmental Delegate Northwest, Godson Orélus, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and Klaus Eberwein, the Director General of Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) ; unveiled the whole special plan developed by the Government to address the urgent needs on the island.

This plan funded to the tune 1.5 million U.S. dollars, coordinated by the Director General of the FAES, will span six months, includes 27 actions to contribute to immediate change in the economic situation of the commune and living conditions of people the most vulnerable.

The Government is committed under this plan, to fight against food insecurity and extreme poverty on the island by building 7 Community restaurants with a total capacity of 7,000 meals a day. 40,000 "panye solidarite", 10,000 emergency vouchers will be distributed to the most needy and 1,000 new jobs will be created from a wide sanitation program.

In order to support and promote plant and animal production, the Government will build two hill lakes. It will distribute 2,000 kits of agricultural seed, 1,000 fishing kits and 1,000 goats to the population.

The Administration Martelly and Lamothe Government also intend to relieve women with children, by doubling the number of children enrolled regularly in the Universal Schooling Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) program. hey will award five scholarships of excellence and will literate 10,000 adults.

Through this plan, 500 mothers supplementary will integrate the program "Ti manman cherie" and 200 business women will receive a credit program to stimulate economic activity.

Moreover, the Prime Minister gave instructions to Godson Orélus to increase the size of staff stationed at the Police Station of the region that will be rebuilt and provided with new means of displacement. 30 new police officers will be deployed to strengthen the security devices and curb illegal boats in Turtle Island. 100 new street lights will also be installed.

This special plan established by the team Martelly/Lamothe is part of the priority government strategy to eradicate poverty and fight hunger on Turtle Island.

Remember that this Saturday, February 8, Prime Minister Lamothe will be in Gonaïves to launch the fifth edition of "Gouvènman an lakay ou" the platform for ongoing dialogue with communities.
