Haiti - Education : Launch of the literacy campaign in Grand Anse

Friday, March 21, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, proceeded to the the launch of the 6th national literacy campaign in the town of Bernagousse (commune of Pestel). This campaign aims to alphabetize 370,000 people over a period of 15 months, on the whole national territory https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10766-haiti-education-launch-of-the-6th-national-literacy-campaign.html

In the department of Grand Anse, this campaign will help to pave the way of instruction for 15.295 citizens. To this end, the Government, that seeks greater efficiency, has already set up 514 classes at the level of 12 towns in this department. Training sessions funded by the Haitian government to the tune of 2 million Gourdes will also be organized for 600 agents and technicians currently working in the framework of a pilot project of functional literacy.

In support of this campaign in the department of Grand Anse, the Government will distribute: 16.448 literacy manuals, 115 televisions for audiovisual classes, 115 videos to animate these classes, 115 kits of cassettes, 300 boxes of chalk, 1,500 boxes of pencils, 16,000 erasers and 16,500 books.

This sustained national literacy campaign, which is a first for Haiti, is part of the Government's vision to reduce social inequalities.
