Haiti - Economy : Chinese settle in Haiti...

Wednesday, Wilson Laleau, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Rode Préval, the Director General of Free Zones, have signed an agreement with the representative of the Anonymous Chinese company Handxom S.A, particularly specialized in the assembly of tablets and mobile phones for an amount of $13 million, for the establishment of an industrial free zone of manufacturing of electronic products, called "Handxom free Zone" in Morne Casse in the Commune of Ferrier.

According to this agreement, the leaders of this company will also participate in the development of the site through the creation of modern industrial space for the benefit of other foreign promoters to come. The responsible of d’Handxom S.A. already planning to inject into this project, each year, $3 million more.

According Rode Préval, about 13,000 direct jobs will be created from this project, which will benefit the communes pf Ferrier, Ouanaminthe, Fort-Liberté, Perches and Terrier Rouge.

In addition, an addendum was signed with the "West Indies Industrial Mills" Society on the creation of an industrial zone in Varreux (Commune of Cité Soleil), whose the initial amount of $87 million has now been raised to $145 million. According to Fritz Mevs, the signatory for the "West Indies Industrial Mills", the project will create more than 20,000 jobs.

The Minister Laleau recalled that the government had made ​​great efforts to attract such companies in the country (incentives and tax and customs benefits) and hopes that more Chinese companies coming to settle in Haiti.
