Haiti - Politic : Thomas A. Shannon support the consultations of President Martelly

Thursday, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, met with Thomas A. Shannon, Counselor of the United States Department of State, in the presence, among other of Haiti Special Coordinator Thomas C. Adams, Ambassador of the United States accredited to Haiti, Pamela A. White, and the Ambassador of Haiti in Washington, Paul Altidor.

During this high-level meeting, which takes place 4 days after the new postponement of the elections, the two men discussed the issue of the pre-electoral situation. The Prime Minister has reported to the US diplomat steps taken by the Head of State for the organization of credible, inclusive and transparent elections in the country to avoid any institutional vacuum. Recalling that the Provisional Electoral Council was ready and that it only remained the vote on amendments to the electoral law in the Senate for the the holding of next elections "More than 215 days after the filing of the electoral law in the Senate, nothing is done to introduce the necessary amendments at a time when the Government has taken measures for the holding of elections. I will continue to appeal to the sense of patriotic duty, of the Group of six senators of the opposition, so that makes the effort to give the country an electoral law to organize elections as soon as possible," affirmed the Head of Government.

Thomas A. Shannon said to note progress in the country during the past three years, especially in the reconstruction and development. He said support consultations initiated by the Head of State to find a suitable date for the next elections.
