Haiti - Environment : Haiti won a prestigious award in the competition «RIYA 2014»

Monday at Santo Domingo, were awarded the Awards of the "RIYA 2014" organized by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export). This Edition 2014, was focused on the green economy and aimed to promote investment in environmentally sound practices and sustainable development initiatives. Initiatives that protect the fragile ecosystem of the region, its flora, fauna and people.

The company "Palmis Enèji", who represented Haiti in the "RIYA 2014" won the prestigious Award Foreign Investor of the Year 2014. This award is to honor foreign investors (non-Caribbean nationals) who have invested in operations in the region, which generated a significant effect on the green economy. Moreover, with this award, Palmis Enèji puts Haiti in the spotlight abroad, for its efforts in improving the business environment, what will contribute to attract new investors to participate in the country's economic development.

Founded in 2012 by the French organization Entrepreneurs of the World, Palmis Enèji wants to allow access for all to clean energy, modern and economical. In two years of activities, it has distributed nearly 15,000 products (sunlamps and improved stoves). These sales have helped improve the lives of nearly 60 000 people by allowing them to save per year more than 500,000 US dollars fuel while reducing the impact of toxic fumes on human health. Moreover, it allowed to save more than 15,000 tons of wood and reduced by more than 20,000 tons per year the CO2 emissions in Haiti.

Accompanied by strong ethical investors: Entrepreneurs of the World, "Yunus Social Business" and the Grameen Crédit Agricole, the Haitian company hopes to increase its positive impact in Haiti.
