Haiti - Elections : The CEP intends to facilitate access to polling stations for people with disabilities

Although no one knows when will take place the next elections, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in its statement #8 signed by the President of the Electoral Council, Max Mathurin, indicates that the Council intends to "take all measures deemed necessary to facilitate access to the Centres and Polling stations to persons with disabilities, in the perspective of forthcoming elections."

Recalling that according to the Electoral Law, the Law on the integration of people with disabilities and conventions ratified by the Haitian government in this matter, the CEP "will ensure to the extent of its means, to the compliance with accessibility principles to the polling centers, in order to encourage voting participation, of ulnerable categories of the Haitian electorate, while allowing them to exercise their civic duty without discrimination and in freedom."

Furthermore he invited leaders of parties, Groups and Groupings of political parties "to work in order to promote the integration of people with disabilities, both in their political program than in their organization."
