Haiti - Economy : The Association Of Industry of Haiti appealed to LEVE project

The Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH) appealed to LEVE project (Local Enterprise and Value Chain Enhancement) funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The objective of the Local Enterprise and Value Chain Enhancement Project (LEVE) is to help our Haitian partners create economic growth through capacity building and job creation.

LEVE target micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) in an effort to work with them to improve and enhance their capacity and competitiveness. LEVE also work with technical and vocational schools to help them improve their course of study and job placement. In the Port-au-Prince corridor, LEVE is providing assistance to agribusiness, construction, and the apparel/textile industry. In the St. Marc corridor, it is assisting the agribusiness sector, and in the Cap-Haitian corridor, it is assisting the construction and apparel/textile sector. By working with the private sector and workforce providers, LEVE encourage the development of more inclusive and productive value chains. The "value chain approach" is an innovative economic tool that views a market system—from input suppliers to end market buyers— designed to improve competitiveness and enlarge the potential for rapid growth.

Activities :

  • Enable MSMEs to engage with other value chain actors to increase output, income, and employment: MSMEs’ success will help counter the highly skewed distribution of wealth in Haiti and support a fledgling middle class.

  • Increase MSMEs access to a productive labor pool with relevant skills and competencies: LEVE will implement new approaches to vocational training and supplement basic education with practical workplace skills.

  • Improve the capacity of Haitian organizations to implement projects and manage USG funds to ensure efficiency and sustainability of development efforts.

  • Identify and improve synergy among existing projects and activities: The impact of USAID’s projects will be magnified through greater coordination.

Anticipated Results :

  • Greater integration of MSMEs into selected value chains;

  • Improved skills and competencies of the labor pool;

  • More responsive workforce organizations to private sector demand; and

  • Improved synergy among existing projects and programs.
