Haiti - Sports : Appeal to the private sector to «met men» or the development of sport

Jimmy Albert, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action visited the Parks of Thomassin 25 and Jalousie and the Sports centers of Delmas 3 and Carrefour, to check the progress of the rehabilitation of sports infrastructure works.

At Park at St Vincent de Paul of Thomassin 25, the work done in the stands are still in progress and synthetic turf has not yet been installed.

At Jalousie on all work to be performed, only the fence, locker rooms and part of the stands are achieved...

At Dadadou (Delmas 3) Gilbert Charléus the Director of Sports Complex, showed the Minister the plan of the complex which will include: a running track in granite, a weight room, an auditorium, dormitories, 2 Basketball-Volley Ball courts to standards, The football field will be retraced to meet international standards (90m X45m) and host regular matches. According to members of the Management Committee the rehabilitation works that should end in May, due to difficulties mentioned at the meeting, will end in July.

In Carrefour, Jean Roland Dartiguenave, the Director of Sports Center, accompanied the Minister Albert at gymnasium, at the edge of a swimming pool in poor condition and to a weight room. During this visit he discussed with the Minister of the various problems confronted by the country's largest sports center.

Following these visits, the Minister Albert said "If we offer young people the opportunity to flourish today by ensuring good management of Centers and by assisting them to develop their sporting talents, we will ensure to Haiti a better tomorrow," The Minister took the opportunity to appeal to the private sector that he invites to "met men" for the development of sport for the benefit of Haitian youth "If the private business sector support us [...] we will go further."
