Haiti - Diplomacy : The Haitian Government accept the Dominican requests

Pierre Duly Brutus, Haiti's Minister of Foreign Affairs wrote to his Dominican counterpart Andrés Navarro, to inform him of new measures taken by his government to ensure the security of the Embassy and the Dominican consulates in Haiti.

"[...] With a feeling of deep consideration, we inform His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Andrés Navarro, that our government taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety of the ambassador, consuls and other staff working in diplomatic missions," indicates the Haitian Chancellor in his note, adding that surrounding the 5 consulates were posted a larger number of police and soldiers of MINUSTAH.

Recall that last week the Dominican Government had informed of the temporary closure of its consular offices in Port-au-Prince, Ouanaminthe, Anse-à-Pitre, Belladère and Cap-Haïtien https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13309-haiti-flash-the-dominican-republic-closed-its-5-consulates-in-haiti.html

Commenting on the provisions announced by the Haitian Government, the Chancellor Navarro declared "We welcome this security measure taken by the administration of President Michel Martelly about our diplomatic missions, which we are certain we will allow us to quickly re-open our five consulates temporarily closed."

In this perspective, the Dominican Chancellor with his team, met during the previous weekend with the Dominican Ambassador in Haiti, Rubén Silié and the 5 consuls stationed in Haiti.

Navarro also confirmed that he will meet Tuesday in Antigua, Guatemala, his Haitian counterpart Duly Brutus, during the Summit of Heads of State of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

It is expected at this meeting that the foreign ministers take stock of the situation between the two nations, the political dialogue and the normalization of relations between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Andrés Navarro stressed the will of the Dominican government to maintain an open and respectful dialogue with neighboring authorities, while last week his Haitian counterpart, about this meeting, declared "We will use all diplomatic channels to reduce tensions between the two peoples."
