Haiti - Economy : Local Border Development Project (PDLT)

The first meeting between the network of the Local Economic Development Agency of the Dominican Republic (ADELDOM) and several public sector institutions, private, social and community of the Department of North East, was recently held in Ouanaminthe in order to start the process of creating the first Local Economic Development Agency (LEDA) of Haiti.

As part of the Local Development Border Project (PDLT), funded by the European Union, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has signed an agreement with the ADELDOM Network to support technically for the next 6 months, the actors of the Northeast with the implementation of ADEL mechanism. This agreement aims the implementation of a strategic framework to promote local economic development of the territory and improving the quality of life and human development of the border population.

This first meeting brought together actors from different sectors including: the Town Hall of Ouanaminthe, representatives of the Consultative Municipal Council (CCC), of the Association of Shopkeepers of Ouanaminthe (ASCOMO), hotels and tourism of the territory, of the NGO SJM/Border Solidarity, of the Union of Youth for Northeast Progress (UJANE), of the organization Youth Active for the Development of Ouanaminthe (JADO), the Association of Women (AFO), the coffee value chain of Mont Organisé (FODECO), of the ADEL of Dajabón and UNDP/PDLT team.
