Haiti - Politic : $55 million for water, sanitation and hydrometeorology

Tuesday, Wilson Laleau, the Minister of Economy and Finance and Mary Barton Dock, representative of the World Bank signed two grant agreements totaling 55 million US dollars.

The first project, amounting to $50 million over a period of 6 years, covers the services of drinking water and sustainable sanitation. It should lead to a considerable reduction in the number of cholera cases and deaths caused by this disease. This project that will be implemented by the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), intends to contribute to an improvement in the drinking water coverage and sanitation and provide financial and technical support to OREPAs (Regional Offices DINEPA).

The second project for an amount of $ 5 million over 5 years, concerns the strengthening of hydro-meteorological services. It will be implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture. It will support the Minsitry in developing the monitoring and analysis capacity of hydrological parameters, meteorological and climatic and also contribute to the development of technical tools adapted to agricultural needs https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14371-haiti-agriculture-$5m-to-be-better-prepared-to-climatic-conditions-and-shocks.html

"These projects aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity to ensure the basis for sustainable growth in the sanitation, water and hydrometeorology sectors," said Mary Barton Dock, who stressed that "these two grant agreements will contribute to the country's progress on the path towards sustainable development."
