Haiti - Humanitarian : The Government unable to meet the needs of Haitians returning...

While the Haitian voluntary return from the Dominican Republic continue and that on Friday, the first official repatriation started (in small amounts) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14430-haiti-social-8-haitian-boat-people-arrested-in-palm-beach.html , it is urgent to conduct a multi-sectoral assessment taking into account the needs of these people in terms of protection, shelter, health care, clean water, sanitation and hygiene, etc...

Recall that the Dominican authorities have indicated that between 18 June and 2 August 2015, 65.049 people in an irregular migratory situation, living in the Dominican Republic, have already returned voluntarily to Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14794-haiti-dominican-republic-65-927-voluntary-returns-to-haiti.html

The government and some members of civil society have already initiated humanitarian assistance or of protection in favor of returnees. However, it is necessary a more efficient mechanism for coordination and information management.

To accommodate the returnees, camps develop spontaneously, particularly in the commune of Anse-à-Pitres, one of four official entry points. In these camps, the living conditions are very precarious and are far from the political discourse of our leaders, who advocated a worthy reception for our compatriots...

A report published by the the MINUSTAH Police Department on the situation of the camp "Fond Jeannettes" in Anse-à-Pitres, reported the absence of health services, clean water and sanitation. The camp, consisting of tarpaulins and wooden huts covered with clothes and foliage, very vulnerable, can not resist the metrological phenomena.

In addition, the report emphasizes that the region suffered a severe drought and food insecurity affects the majority of households. In response, local authorities, supported by local NGOs, have distributed food rations. However, les faibles réponses apportées sont incapables de couvrir tous les besoins, qui restent encore énormes.

The humanitarian community calls for further evaluation operations and is committed to mobilize the necessary human and financial resources to support the Government of Haiti to prepare for and respond to the global situation related to the migration crisis.
