Haiti - Elections : The election of Pastor Jeune a Scandal for the Protestant Federation

The day after the decision of a group of leaders of Protestant sector to elect Pastor Jean Chavannes Jeune as single-candidate for president of the Protestant sector https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15099-haiti-elections-the-protestant-sector-has-now-two-candidates.html as a challenge to the decision of the High Level Commission, that had elected former journalist Clarens Renois as single candidate https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15043-haiti-news-electoral-zapping.html , the Haitian Protestant Federation (FPH), representative body of the Haitian community, said being ashamed and called on political actors to Protestant tendency to exercise restraint, respect and practice the Christian values.

Thursday, on a radio station in the capital, Pastor Sylvain Exantus, President of the FPH deplored how pastors led by Osner Févry reacted to the decision of the Commission of Mediation "This does not correspond to Protestant values [...] Those who caused this scandal did they have concern for the common good that is Protestantism ? [...] Are they are aware of the impact of such an initiative on the Protestant sector and the population? [...]"

Pastor Sylvain Exantus confirmed that the Federation had mandated no people to represent it in the vote leading to the appointment of Pastor Jeune "The Protestant Federation of Haiti manages churches and Protestantism in general. It does not have to intervene in the management of political parties, nor to dictate them what to do [...]" urging Protestants to regroup and not to let the election situation to destroy the unity of the Protestant community.
