Saturday, as part of the 21st General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (September 11-16) in Medellín (Colombia), during the 59th Meeting of the Regional Commission for the Americas (CAM) of the UNWTO, Haiti has been unanimously elected as President of the Commission for two consecutive years (2015-2017) by the 26 member countries in the presence of Stéphanie Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) and members of the Haitian delegation.

Alongside the statutory plenary meetings of the Member States with the General Secretariat of the UNWTO to this 21st General Assembly, the Haitian delegation also took part in a high-level forum conducted jointly by UNWTO and the Office of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), on the theme "Tourism and Transport for Development".

Furthermore, the Minister Villedrouin met with Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of the UNWTO and Carlos Vogeler, Director of the Commission for the Americas on the progress of tourism projects in Haiti specifically the upcoming launch in Haiti of the Tourism Awareness campaign whose experts of the UNWTO contributed to the establishment.

In addition, following the opportunities of bilateral meetings created by the 21st General Assembly of the UNWTO, Stéphanie Villedrouin had the opportunity to meet with various personalities including Ms. tore Gonzalez, Executive Director of ITC (International Trade Centre) on a possible partnership for the development of creative industries. This series of strategic meetings has resulted in a talks on a cooperation follow up at the level of training between the MTIC and Oliver Herrmann, Director of the Statistics Programme for the Satellite Account and the Director of the University of Tourism and Gastronomy of Mexico, Anahuac, Dr. Francisco Madrid Flores.
