Haiti - Politic : 5 South American countries have returned more than 300 Haitians in DR

According to José Francisco Peña Gómez of the Directorate General of the Dominican Immigration, of security and intelligence services at the international airport of Las Americas in the Dominican Republic, the last two months, more than 300 Haitian passengers were returned by 5 South American countries: Brazil, Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, countries where they arrived without proper visa on flights from the Dominican Republic, a country they have used as a transit.

Most of the Haitians trying to reach these countries, particularly Brazil, where they enjoy some easier, have traveled to Dominican Republic with legal visas, but others did it by illegally crossing the Dominican border.

Moreover, in many cases, Haitian groups have paid private charter aircraft from Las Americas Airport in connection with flights to Panama, Venezuela and Colombia, countries that they also use as a bridge towards countries where they try to enter.

Haitians expelled from the mentioned countries were welcomed at the airport of Las Américas by Dominican immigration authorities responsible to escort them to the Dominican border so that they return to their country of origin, Haiti.
