Haiti - FLASH : The Ministry of Education maintains schools closed

The Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) inform the public in general and the education community in particular that it was decided to resume school activities from Monday, October 10, 2016.

This decision that concerns all the schools of the Republic, is justified because :

Weather forecasts announcing heavy rains across the country until Thursday, October 6;

Field difficulties, following the damage caused by Matthew;

Inability to accommodate students now in public schools serving as temporary shelters;

The need to take action in schools affected for the reception of students in acceptable conditions.

An assessment of school facilities is already underway to determine all damages and actions to be taken immediately for the rehabilitation and/or reconstruction of the affected schools.

The Ministry informs, moreover, that the 2016-2017 school year will be revised to take into account the five class days lost. It calls once again, educational agents and everyone to observe safety precautions of the Civil Protection and to show solidarity with those who are currently in difficulty.
