Haiti - Training : Internship Opportunities for Students

ACTIVEH a nonprofit organization founded in 2011 launched the third year of its project aiming at seek opportunities of practical experience (internships) for students and providing qualified professionals available to public institutions, profit or not, throughout Haiti.

"A practical experience is essential for the transition from student life to professional life," says Ronel Lefranc, Executive Director of ACTIVEH "Neglecting this aspect of working life of young academics would only contribute to increasing the leak rate of these potential outside the country. This project aims to create a bridge between the labor market and students while motivating them to get involved in initiatives that promote community development." Efforts in this project will be concentrated over a period of two years, on placement of 100 students in internships in companies in Haiti.

Training workshops on personal leadership, the development of professional and interpersonal skills and community service will be organized for members of the organization and the student community in general. Internship opportunities and volunteering, with public and private institutions of the place will be offered to young academics to enable them to better prepare for the job market.

"This project will allow students to apply the theories learned at university, to learn new skills, develop interpersonal skills and also their confidence," said Ronel. "They will be more competitive in the labor market and will have the necessary background to thrive professionally and contribute to the development of their communities."

The project received a grant of US $ 50,000 from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation based in Battle Creek, Michigan, covering the period March 2016 to February 2017.

ACTIVEH is a nonprofit organization, founded in November 2011, led by young people to mobilize the passion and potential of students as a force of change for Haiti and develop professional internships and volunteer opportunities for community development programs in Haiti. The organization is located at #9 of the Debussy street Turgeau.

Each year ACTIVEH contact more than 50 institutions from different sectors in Haiti to seek internship opportunities for its members. Since 2014, ACTIVEH has partnered with twenty institution and has already placed more than 120 students in internship and employment with institutions at 7 departments of country.
