Haiti - Education : Grand'Anse, 40% of educational institutions still non-functional

Nearly two months after the passage of Hurricane Matthew on the Great South, nearly 40% of educational institutions are still not functional in the Grand'Anse, works to rehabilitate infrastructure drag... forcing parents to keep their children at home.

"The work of rehabilitating school infrastructures is progressing relatively well," says Jean-Marcel Jeanty, Director of the Departmental Directorate of Education for the Grand'Anse within the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), indicating that they are superficial rehabilitation works, including the repair of the roofs of certain schools... He stresses that schools function only at about 60%. "If we take into account the date of the cyclone's passage on the country, today we can say that the school activities are in the process of being resumed gradually in the departement."

However Jean-Marcel Jeanty is not able to give a date for the total resumption of school activities for this zone.
