Haiti - Economy : Who is Myrtha Vilbon, Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 ?

Let's reclal that Myrtha Vilbon, owner of the company "Glory Industries", the first Haitian manufacturer of hygienic paper and paper napkins manufactured in Port-au-Prince, which employs more than 80 people, which 70% are women, won last December the coveted title of Entrepreneur of the Year 2016, at the 7th Edition of the prestigious competition organized by Digicel https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19559-haiti-economy-winners-of-the-contest-digicel-entrepreneur-of-the-year-2016.html

The Jury nominated Myrtha Vilbon Entrepreneur of the Year 2016, for having seen the business opportunity by transforming the toilet paper, a luxury imported and costly, in locally made product available. According to the traditional model of substitution of imported products, Myrtha collected $2.4 million to finance "Glory Industries".

Who is Myrtha Vilbon ?

Myrtha Vilbon was born into a family of entrepreneurs. When she started helping in her father's candy factory at the age of 7, it was clear to everyone that she had inherited their enthusiasm, aspiration and love of success.

From the outset, she specialized in the structuring of food distribution networks for several well-known foreign brands, gaining significant international experience and a valuable knowledge of the needs and what these companies found when they entered the Haitian market.

Last summer Martha Vilbon was one of four Haitian entrepreneurs to take part in the World Entrepreneurship Summit in Palo Alto, California, attended by President Barack Obama, ahich examined the challenges faced by local businesses in countries where implementation is considered as "difficult".

In addition to becoming Entrepreneur of the Year, Martha Vilbon is also the national winner in the emerging category. She was chosen for her success in a market dominated by imports and to produce intuitively an affordable product sold by street vendors among other more expensive products.

Since her childhood in her father's society, she has been attentive to the way things worked. She knows when and how to put the emphasis there is necessary in a business, on aspects like financial ability and corporate social responsibility, as we see with the success of Glory Industries today.
