Haiti - Security : Surveillance cameras in Delmas, positive results

As part of a public-private partnership, Delmas is currently installing more than 300 surveillance cameras on all major roads of the commune https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19620-haiti-security-delmas-soon-under-surveillance-cameras.html

193 cameras are already installed and in operation. When the network of cameras will be complete, it will cover an area from Delmas 62 to Delmas 2 and Carrefour from the airport to Trois-Mains (close to SONAPI).

According to the Commissioner of Delmas, Jean-Bruce Myrtil positive results are already noted. He asserts that the crime rate in January, saw a significant decrease, which he attributes to the monitoring device. He explains that as soon as suspicious behavior is detected on the control screens of the surveillance center (which receives images via the Internet) a patrol is immediately sent to the scene to check and if necessary, arrest the suspect. He says that the newly installed cameras have already allowed to identify and arrest two bandits during the month of January.

Commissioner Myrtil is convinced that these cameras will enable the bandits to be tracked effectively and help to establish a safe environment in the municipality of Delmas.
