Haiti - Politics : 7th meeting of the Sectoral Table on Social Protection

The 7th meeting of the Sectoral Table on Social Protection (TSPS), organized by the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation (MPCE) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), was held this week.

Let's recall that TSPS is a workshop designed to stimulate discussion, coordinate actions and share best practices in the field of social protection, in line with theFramework for the Coordination of External Development Assistance (CAED) through a platform bringing together public institutions, technical and financial partners as well as civil society organizations.

In his opening remarks, Jean Mercier Prophète, representing the Director General of the Ministry of Planning, acknowledged the need to support the Ministry of Social Affairs, which alone can not meet this challenge, highlighting certain aspects of cross-sectoral social protection. "The challenge of social protection is important," said Jean Mercier Prophète "It begins with the need to systematically assess the size of the population as a whole and to understand the basic needs of each social stratum in order to be able to taking the right decisions to reduce their vulnerability."

Pierre Ricot Odney, the Director of Planning at the MAST, was pleased that the approach to framing the actions of all actors working in the field of social protection was well understood. He underlined the need to draw up a framework document on public social protection policy to be presented before the end of the current fiscal year and called for the involvement and participation of all actors to achieve this.

This 7th meeting was an opportunity for the actors to share experiences through presentations of a series of concepts related to social protection.
