Haiti - DR : The expulsion of illegal Haitian workers will increase

As part of the evaluation of the employment of foreign labor in banana plantations in the Dominican territory, particularly in plantations near the localities of Palo Verdeet and of bateyes of Walterio, Los Chaletes de La Cruz, Madre, Isabel, Maguaca, Juliana-Jaramillo and Sequía, considered to be the largest banana production area, the Directorate General for Migration (DGM) at a recent meeting with Northwest producers reminded them that employers who hire foreign workers, must prove that these employees are in good standing in the Dominican Republic and have the right to work.

Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado, Director of DGM, informed that these assessments and inspections will be extended, including to other border provinces and other productive sectors that recruit Haitian labor.

He reminded Dominican employers that, in accordance with the provisions of the Immigration Act, every Dominican employer offering work to a foreigner must verify that his residence permit is in order and that he is authorized to work in the Republic Dominican Republic, otherwise the illegal person will be expelled to its country of origin at the expense of the employer, who will also be subject to the penalties provided by law.

It should be noted that inspections of the employment of foreign personnel (Haitians in 98% of the cases) in the construction sector, among others, and even in the tourism sector, are already carried out across Dominican territory and not only in the large cities, resulting in many expulsions of our compatriots in an irregular situation.
