Haiti - Politic : "We want a strong government when we will leave"

Haiti - Politic :

At a meeting of CARICOM (Caribbean Community), the outgoing Prime Minister of CARICOM, Bruce Golding said in the presence of the Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean Max Bellerive, earlier this week, that it is in the interest of the region, that Haiti regain its stability.

Stressing that it was not in the interest of CARICOM to see "the continuation of a situation that promotes instability and uncertainty" regarding the direction of the Haitian government. Specifying that the sooner the new government is established and the sooner the Haitian people can dedicate themselves to rebuilding the country with support from the Caribbean region.

He also recalled that Haiti was "a young democracy" and that its structures and democratic institutions are fragile, and can be strengthened and consolidated, over the time with the full support of the institutional community.

Responding to questions from the chiefs of mission of nations and international organizations present at the meeting, Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said that his government was seeking to "leave a stable country for the next administration" and "would accept the results" from the experts of the Organization of the American States (OAS) in charge of the verification processes of the disputed preliminary results of the first round.

"We want a strong government when we will leave [...] allowing anyone who will win the election, to have the full support of the international community" said the Prime Minister of Haiti.
