Haiti - DR : 19,5 million Euro for the next binational program

Monday in Santo Domingo in the presence of Ambassador Antonio Vargas Hernandez, Director General of Multilateral Cooperation and National Authorizing Officer of the European Development Fund Alberto Navarro, Head of the European Union Delegation in the Dominican Republic, was launched a national workshop on the next binational program between Haiti and the Dominican Republic (sport, culture and education among others), which will be financed to the tune of €19.5 million by the European Union.

This workshop was also used as a preparation for a bi-national workshop to be held later in June in Haiti for the joint sharing of work in order to finalize and subsequently submit to Brussels the final action document.

For Ambassador Vargas Hernández, General Director of Multilateral Cooperation (DIGECOOM) the Dominican-Haitian relations are of great importance for the development of the two nations and present challenges that requires to continue to strengthen the links and the promotion of dialogue between the two peoples.

He recalled that the €50.1 million binational program of the 10th European Development Fund, focusing on trade, environment and support, will be deepened in the next binational workshop.

It should be noted that the continuity of this binational program under the 11th European Development Fund, both at the level of governments and non-state actors, was agreed by the Haitian and Dominican government and by the European Union, at a meeting within the framework of the Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM).
