Haiti - Politics : End of mission of a delegation of UN experts

Following the end of the mission to Haiti of a delegation of Experts on Agenda 2030, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) came at the request of the Haitian authorities in the framework of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a feedback session was organized jointly by Aviol Fleurant, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation and Martine Therer the Deputy Director-General of UNDP in Haiti.

During the meeting which was attended amo,ng other by Stevenson Jacques Thimoléon, the Director General of the Ministry and some technical officials, members of the mission said they had worked with all senior executives, from the State nd public institutions, Involved in the implementation of SDGs. They reported on the progress and challenges they have encountered, linked to the funding issues.

In his remarks, Minister Fleurant said that by using the experts of the Agenda 2030, the Haitian authorities wanted to benefit from an external vision, capable of bringing new answers to the concerns of the Haitian population, wise responses that can quickly ensure the exit of the despairing spectacle towards better perspectives.

Mrs. Martine Therer praised the work carried out by the mission of experts during her stay in Haiti and stressed that "this work will prompt in-depth reflections in the coming months" reiterating UNDP's commitment to stay with Haiti in the realization of the SDOs.

This mission enabled the United Nations experts to understand that the fundamental problems lie in the availability of reliable data will make possible to assess, in the best way, the situations at the level of the priority axes chosen by the government authorities, in order to provide rapid and appropriate answers to the various conjunctures to which are faced Haitian officials.
