Haiti - Politics : Launch of the ONA-Fanm credit program

This week in Cap-Haïtien, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by his wife Martine, Chesnel Pierre, Director General of the National Office for Old-age Insurance (ONA) and the Senator of the North Department, Dieudonne Étienne Luma, launched the "ONA-Fanm" program in the presence of dozens of women, mostly small traders.

In her speech, Senator Dieudonne Luma Étienne, at the origin of this initiative, thanked the Head of State and the Director General of the ONA for making this dream a reality "Nearly a hundred Women will benefit from a 25,000 Gourdes loan repayable over a period ranging from 6 to 12 months at a rate of 1% per month," said Senator Étienne, stressing that "allowing women to start a small business in a country where access to credit is becoming increasingly difficult day by day, is a real breakthrough in the Department of the North," promising, with the support of the Directorate General of the ONA, to continue working so that the program reach more women possible, especially in rural areas.

Concluding her intervention by recalling this adage of Haitian folklore "regleman pa gate zanmi", for the beneficiaries to respect their commitments to the ONA to facilitate more women access to credit. The beneficiaries have not hidden their joy of being able to access this credit that will allow them to start small businesses in various fields.

The Head of State, while exhorting the beneficiaries to make good use of this loan, welcomed the dedication of Senator Étienne whose efforts allowed this program to reach the Department of the North.

Note that the beneficiaries of the program are first, of members of Women's Associations, the other women will be reached soon.
