Haiti - Cholera : Chile, donation of 7 tons of medical aid

The Embassy of Chile made a donation to the Government of Haiti of 7 tons of medical supplies to fight against the cholera epidemic under the program Promess/PAHO. This donation is added to the 900 pounds of chlorine sent in December 2010.

The solidarity of the Government and people of Chile has already been demonstrated during the earthquake of January 2010 when Chile had sent five planes with humanitarian emergencies, including 100 tons of materials (medicines, food, tents), 43 health professionals, and rescue teams who worked to save many lives.

Chile expresses its solidarity with the Haitian people in their fight against the cholera epidemic, and its confidence in the work of the Haitian Government and the International Community to provide the necessary care to its population. The Embassy of Chile in Haiti renews its commitment to the Development of Haiti and its reconstruction through technical assistance and institutional strengthening of the Haitian State.

Last cholera assessment : since the beginning of the cholera epidemic in Haiti (October 19, 2010), 209.037 people were infected and treated, 117.930 people were hospitalized and 4.030 people died. According to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), dated of January 24, 2011.
