The Haitian Ski Federation, will send Jean-Pierre Roy (founder) aka "Rasta Piquett" [in allusion to the "Rasta Rockets" of the Jamaican Bobsled team] to the World Ski Championships of Garmisch Partenkirchen (Germany), to be held on February 17 and 19 2011, to represent Haiti.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Jean-Pierre Roy, computer scientist of 47 years old, who runs a SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) of a dozen employees in the Paris suburbs, few months ago has decided to do the crazy bet to participate in this worldwide event. "Rasta Piquett" has obtained his qualification to the championship in November 2010 in Chamonix (Alpes, France) and Val-Thorens (Savoie, France).

Enthusiastic, "Rasta Piquett" will be at the start of the playoff races and the giant slalom. The fifty fastest skiers will compete with the elite to the decisive tests the next day "I do not train to have the level, I will only have twenty days of ski the competion day, the others will have twenty years old of skiing behind" he says smiling.

At first, "it was an idea like that, I thought, well if I competed in World Championships in front of the cameras. Everyone would see a Haitian and wonder what he's doing there". To make this crazy gamble, Jean-Pierre Roy created the Haitian ski federation, which is so far the only licensee [he holds a license from the International Ski Federation No. 921 000].

At 47, Jean-Pierre Roy does not seek the glory or a place on the podium, his only goal: revive the generosity to Haiti via its project "L'or blanc pour Haïti" (The white gold for Haiti). On the website of the operation, Jean-Pierre offers his support to two NGOs, the Secours populaire, for its specific action on the education and ALIMA, which works especially against the cholera in Haiti.

"We believe that the World Ski Championships of Garmisch Partenkirchen is an excellent medium to put Haiti on the front of the stage" a message largely relayed through the Internet and the media in Haiti and abroad.
