Haiti - Economy : + 1% monthly inflation (February 2018)

For the month of February 2018, the General Consumer Price Index (base 100 in August 2004) stood at 333.5 against 330.1 in January, showing an increase in inflation of + 1% on a monthly basis, slightly higher than January + 0.9%. However, year-on-year (last 12 months) inflation remains stable at 13.2% at the same level as the previous month.

This monthly increase in inflation of + 1% is mainly the result of the behavior of consumer functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.0%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 1.2%), "Rent Housing, Energy and Water "(+ 2.0%)," Development, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing "(+ 1.3%) and" Health "(+ 1.8%).

The positive change in the "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" index, which represents more than 50% of the household budget, comes from, among other things, of the rise in the price of beef (+ 1.6%) and pork (+ 2.1%). ), goat (+ 2.0%), herring (+ 1.6%), salt herring (+ 1.9%), avocado (+ 1.0%), banana (+ 1.4%), giraumon (+ 1.6%), lager, pumpkin (+ 1.6%), eggplant (+ 1.9%), cabbage (+ 1.6%), onion (+ 1.5%), malanga (+ 2.2%), cassava (+ 1.2%), potatoes (+ 1.5%), potatoes (+ 1.8%), real trees (+ 2.4%), grapefruit (+ 1.5%) and lemon (+ 1.3%). The increase in the "Housing Rent, Energy and Water" index s due to the price of rent for housing (+ 1.6%) and charcoal (+ 4.1%).

Growth in the index of "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance" came from higher prices for living room furniture (+ 1.0%), dining room (+ 1.4%), bed linen (+ 1.3%), curtains (+ 1.5%), insecticide (+ 1.6%), laundry soap (+ 1.6%), disinfectant (+ 1.8%), domestic workers' salaries (+1.7%) %) and dry cleaning (+ 1.0%).

Lastly, the increase in the "Health" index is attributable to the increase in medicine prices (+ 2.2%), fees paid to doctors (+ 1.8%), laboratory analysis, radiography (+ 1.4% ) and hospitalization costs (+ 1.4%).
