Haiti - Environment : Workshop on how to access the Green Climate Fund

Wednesday ended the 4th information workshop on the Green Climate Fund (GCF) organized by the Ministry of the Environment through the Climate Change Department (DCC), in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the benefit of the technical directors of the central and departmental offices of the Ministry, and representatives of the sectorial ministries (MEF, MPCE, MARNDR, MTPTC).

This 2-day workshop enabled the Ministry to provide an information and awareness platform on the modalities of this climate finance mechanism, accreditation procedures and access to the GCF.

In his speech, Joseph Ronald Toussaint, the Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of the Environment, explained the various opportunities presented by this funding mechanism, which is essential for the Haitian State as well as for the actors of Civil Society and the private sector.

In addition, he highlighted the importance of the readiness program for access to the Green Climate Fund "READINESS", a financing program aimed at strengthening the country's ownership of the GCF access "Our country is one of the 10 most exposed territories in the world and the 5th most vulnerable country to the impacts of climate change and none of our provincial cities, our departments is safe from this threat. But to face the many challenges of this phenomenon, we need adequate means; and, which are offered by countries that emit greenhouse gases, through financing instruments. "

James Cadet, Director of Climate Change at the Ministry, said, "We have arrived at a crossroads where we need to make a joint contribution to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change [...] It is for this reason that the Ministry is organize to equip the country with a national funding program that takes into account investment priorities in climate change mitigation and adaptation."

Reactions were very lively among the participants who produced comments and recommendations to improve the initial version of the National Designated Authority (AND) operation manual.
