Haiti - FLASH : Mgr. Guyre Poulard passed away

The Catholic Church is in mourning, Sunday night at the Hospital Saint Francois de Sales, the Archbishop Emeritus of Port-au-Prince Monsignor Guyre Poulard died at the age of 76 years. According to our information Bishop Guire Poulard had been suffering from pancreatic cancer for about 2 years.

Bishop Guire Poulard was ordained a priest on June 25, 1972 for the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. On 25 February 1988 Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of Jacmel. It was consecrated on May 15 by Bishop Paolo Romeo then apostolic nuncio to Haiti. On March 9, 2009, he was transferred to the episcopal headquarters of Les Cayes. He is named archbishop of Port-au-Prince on January 12, 2011, anniversary of the earthquake that devastated the Haitian capital and killed his predecessor Joseph Miot. He retains this charge until October 7, 2017, when Pope Francis accepts his resignation for age limit.
