Haiti - Security : The Dominicans explain the construction work at the border

While several rumors in Haitian communities living close to the border, suggest that the Dominicans build a wall at the border and that others are talking about construction on Haitian territory, Enrique Ramírez Paniagua, the Director General of Dominican Customs wanted to rectify the facts and provide some useful details.

He explained that it was not a border wall, but a perimeter fence built on Dominican territory, intended to protect a large multi-agency complex located in the province Comendador de Elías Piña not far from Belladère

Ramírez said that this future building, will house various public institutions dedicated to the control of goods entering the Dominican territory through this border post. He explained that it was a Center built jointly with the Ministry of Defense, which will also house the Directorate General of Migration (DGM), the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Directorate of Investigations and the agencies of intelligence that fights smuggling and human trafficking at the border.

He described the construction of this perimeter fence as routine work for the security of customs operations, which was carried out just like the construction of the complex, in respect of the boundary markers delimiting the territorial boundaries as signed by the two countries of the island and deposited at the UN.
