Haiti - FLASH : War between Gangs, the blood flows again to Cité Soleil

For more than two weeks now in Cité Soleil, the largest slum in Port-au-Prince, the fragile truce between the gangs that dated back to 2015, is broken and clashes between rival gangs have resumed, spreading terror among the population causing injuries and several deaths.

According to Jean Frederic Hislain the Mayor of the commune of Cité Soleil, "it is the specter of electoral violence that already hangs over the area.."

The past weekend, violent clashes between armed groups took place. According to testimonies and given the difficulty of confirming this information, the number of victims could be between 7 and 10 dead and several injured, even if the rumors that circulate suggest a much higher number.

Although the leaders of the gangs blame each other, it seems according to several sources that the resumption of confrontations is attributable to the powerful and dangerous "Gabriel" Gang Chief who wants to take control of the City at the request of some politicians, before the next elections...

Tuesday, the Deputy of the commune of Cité Soleil, Pierre Lemaire, accused by the leader of the gang "Ti hougan" to be at the origin of these violence has denied this accusation on the airwaves of the capital. While acknowledging having some relations with Gang leaders, he says instead, do everything to keep the peace in the area, accusing of the hidden hands that prevent Cite Soleil from living in peace, without naming them...
