Haiti - 216th Anniversary : Floral Offering of President Moïse to Toussaint Louverture

On Sunday as part of the commemoration of the 216th anniversary of the death of the precursor of independence, Governor General Toussaint Louverture, President Jovenel Moïse accompanied by acting Prime Minister Jean Michel Lapin, Presidents Me René Sylvestre (Court Cassation), Carl Murat Cantave (Senate) and Gary Bodeau (Chamber of Deputies) laid a wreath at the foot of the Toussaint Louverture monument in the Champ de Mars.

For this ceremony of homage to Toussaint Louverture, were also present among others several Ministers of the Government, Secretaries of State, members of the high state Major of (FAd'H), the National Police of Haiti (PNH), local elected officials and the diplomatic corps.

The Haitian Diplomatic Missions of France, accompanied by some members of the Haitian community paid a tribute to the precursor of Haiti's independence at the Pantheon Museum.

A ceremony that was followed by a parade of soldiers of the Armed Forces of Haiti and agents of the PNH in memory of Toussaint Louverture.

"Today marks the 216th Anniversary of the death of the forerunner of Haitian independence, the hero of a people, of an ideal. Toussaint Louverture, your dream of freedom still covers us today and we must fight to make this freedom real in all levels of our society. May your fall remind us of how much faith we have in our roots, that we can remain a people, a free and proud nation," said Port-au-Prince Mayor Ralph Youri Chevry,
