Haiti - Guerilla : The PNH will strengthen its police presence in the streets

Wednesday Michel Ange Commissioner Louis Jeune, spokesman of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) announced the strengthening of the police presence in the streets, following the wave of insecurity that has been going on for several weeks and the guerrillas what gangs do for the control of a territory.

"The PNH is actively working to restore peace in the capital," appealing for calm to the population and collaboration with law enforcement to end the violence and arrest these bandits.

Despite the words of the authorities who want to be reassuring the situation for the inhabitants of the working-class neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince, such as La Saline, Martissant and Cité Soleil has become more critical in the last two weeks, as clashes between rival gangs that take place are amplified day and night, causing deaths and injuries, without the police being able to stop it.

The conflict originated in the takeover of an area where Parliament, customs, major trading companies and one of the largest informal markets in the country are located. Important issues for those who will control this territory and who will benefit from economic and political advantage especially in the run-up to the elections planned until now next October.

Civil Society members warn that the situation could become more complex in the run-up to the elections and denounce that some parliamentarians support gangs to their advantage.

Recall that on Tuesday, for the first time, the Prime Minister described the situation facing today's security forces "guerrilla" declaring "the country has developed, since 1986, a form of banditry that has evolved until to put the State today in front of an armed guerrilla," https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27490-haiti-security-pm-promises-to-fight-against-urban-guerilla.html and announced in the wake that following a special meeting of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) that morning, measures would be taken without reveal the details in the name of national security.
