Haiti - Environment : The ecological reserve of Wynne Farm in the Kenscoff mountains declared protected area

The Ministry of the Environment has declared the Wynne Farm Ecological Reserve created in 1956 at 1,800 meters above sea level in the Kenscoff Mountains and the 400 hectares of surrounding land as protected areas.

Recall that the Wynn Farm Ecological Reserve is a natural property that is part of the national heritage as defined in the Framework Decree on Environmental Management 2006 (Le Moniteur No. 11, Thursday, January 26, 2006), in its article 3 The decree introduces a moral and legal element in the conservation of the environment" adding "This is an inheritance bequeathed by past generations that we must pass on intact to future generations. Goods and spaces are classified as heritage and should be the focus of the community as a whole."

The Wynne Farm Ecological Reserve has no less than 200 plant species and 300 insect families. The main goal of Wynne Farm is to teach soil management using modern conservation methods, to defend nature and to preserve endangered plants. Horticultural sales, training seminars, workshops on recycling, composting, solar cooking and gardening are some of Wynne Farm's activities. "If we do not protect our diversity, our species will disappear," said Jane Wynne, coordinator of the ecological reserve.

During his visit to Wynne Farm, agrologist Pierre Michard Beaujour pleaded for the protection of endemic species of the country, which represent a huge wealth for biodiversity and strongly discouraged the use of chemicals that destroy the ecosystem, saying "If insects are protected, thousands of plant species will be protected and vice versa."

Let's hope that this protected territory puts an end to the spoliation of the lands of which Wynne Farm is a victim https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24654-haiti-flash-spoliation-operations-in-an-ecological-reserve-in-kenscoff.html
