Haiti - Politic : An OAS mission in Haiti as mediator

On Wednesday, a delegation from the Organization of American States (OAS) led by Carlos Trujillo, the US Ambassador to the OAS and Chair of the Permanent Council and the General Committee of the Organization, will be in Haiti at the request of Bochitt Edmond, the Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The mission of this delegation is to establish parameters to facilitate the dialogue between President Jovenel Moïse and those who demand his resignation "The visit is a fact-finding mission [...] they will meet all relevant stakeholders to find a way to facilitate at best a dialogue between Haitians," informedChancellor Edmond

During his stay, the delegation will meet representatives of political parties, civil society and members of the private business sector. An official of the OAS, while acknowledging that the success of the mission remained uncertain, saying that given the socio-political crisis in Haiti, OAS participation was the best solution.

According to diplomatic sources, this mediator role by the OAS, under strong American influence, would divide Western countries.
