Haiti - Social : 261st birthday of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines

Friday, September 20, as part of the 261st birthday of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines (September 20, 1758 - September 20, 2019), Founding Father of the Haitian Homeland, the former Consul General of Haiti in Chicago Lesly Condé has delivered a reflection message that we invite you to read :

Message from Lesly Condé :

"Dear compatriots and friends of Haiti,

The contribution of Jean-Jacques Dessalines to the history of the human race is a sublime monument in the name of universal freedom. The lessons of bravery, self-esteem and pragmatism that the life of this great man teach us can serve as a guide for all our generations. Even though Jean-Jacques Dessalines is far from being as venerated throughout the world as certain Generals who conquered lands and subjugated humans, he managed to put himself at the head of an army of women and men destitute for to defeat slavery. Dessalines is a real Hero. He is our Hero. It is up to us to venerate his memory and especially to show us worthy of the extraordinary legacy he has left us."

On your side Ralph Youri Chevry the Mayor of Port-au-Prince said on this anniversary day and against a backdrop of protests https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28804-haiti-social-violent-clashes-between-protesters-and-police.html "Dessalines pat sèlman yon vizyonè, Dessalines se te may ki rasanble nou, nou menm vrè pitit tè Dayiti. Li te kwè nan linyon. Linyon ki te rive ba nou nasyon sa. Jodi a li lè li tan pou nou pran egzanp sou papa nasyon an; Pou nou rive rekanpe Ayiti manman libète, Ayiti manman egalite."
