Haiti - UN : Minujusth and international partners seek a peaceful solution to the Haitian crisis

On Monday, during a press briefing at UN headquarters in New York, Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for Secretary-General António Guterres, said the UN was concerned by reports of violence in Haiti in which several people have died in clashes in recent weeks. The United Nations Mission for the Support of Justice in Haiti (Minujusth) calls on all citizens to "refrain from resorting to violence".

At the same time, Minujusth and its international partners are in talks with stakeholders in the crisis to find a peaceful solution to the situation and alleviate the suffering of the Haitian people who, according to Dujarric is "the first victim of this crisis".

Let's remember that last June https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28089-haiti-un-in-october-no-more-peacekeeping-armed-force-in-haiti.html the Security Council had adopted a resolution creating, from 16 October, at the request of the Government of Haiti a political mission called "United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti" (BINUT) to replace Minujusth, to help the Government of Haiti to strengthen political stability and good governance.

BINUT will be headed by a special representative, who will assist the government in the planning of elections; police training on human rights; the response to gang violence; respect for international human rights obligations; Improving prison supervision and strengthening the justice sector.
