Haiti - Social : International Colloquium on the housing issues in Haiti

Several human rights organizations whose PAPDA (1) POHDH (2), GARR (3) and FRAKKA (4) will organize of May 19 to 21, 2011, in Port-au-Prince, an international colloquium on housing issues in Haiti. Representatives of foreign countries are expected at this colloquy, including the Dominican Republic, the United States and Brazil who will share their experiences with Haitians.

This colloquy aims to define a strategy to guide the claims that will make these organizations near the institutions concerned, whose the Haitian State, for the development and implementation of housing projects in the country. The relationship between "housing and human rights" and the status occupied by the housing rights in the reconstruction plan of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC) will be also subject to critical analysis.

Reyneld Sanon, head of the FRAKKA, said that housing problems that existed before the earthquake of January 2010, have become more serious since the tragedy. He denounced "the lack of will of the Haitian government to solve this problem, while we approach of the hurricane season." The head of the FRAKKA, said that the Haitian State has a debt towards the victims, for not having done anything, to prevent the constructions lawless, responsible for most of the damage and loss of life.
