Saturday May 16, in order to strengthen the capacity of the Haitian health system to give an adequate response to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30791-haiti-flash-more-than-35-of-new-cases-in-24-hours-in-port-au-prince.html , Doctors Without Borders ( Médecins Sans Frontières - MSF) opened its Center for the management of positive patients, in Drouillard on the site of the hospital of "Grands Brûlés" (3, street Hubert, Drouillard, Cité Soleil) which has been refurbished to meet these needs.

"The Drouillard Care Center is launching its activities with a capacity of 20 beds and will be able to accommodate up to 45 beds depending on the evolution of the situation. It will take care of patients tested positive for Covid-19 who need hospitalization or oxygen, referred by the Ministry of Public Health and Population. The triage team will assess spontaneous admissions based on established criteria," said the press release.

MSF said it had already provided protective equipment to its staff and set up triage and isolation spaces to "avoid possible contagions with patients who would have symptoms related to Covid-19."

Hassan Issa, MSF chief of mission underlines "[...] the urgency to intervene to respond to this epidemic, forced us to reorient the activities of the hospital of the burned victims. We can only count on the resources that are on site and the staff at our disposal [...]"

Please note that, apart from the hospital for the Burned transformed into a Covid-19 Center, all the health structures across the country (Delmas 33, Gonaïves, Martissant, Port-à-Piment and Tabarre,) continue to provide the usual care for the population.

Finally, Médecins Sans Frontières "[...] calls not to stigmatize the sick and the health staff, in order to guarantee access to care for everyone."
