Haiti - FLASH : The number of Covid-19 cases increased by more than 600% in one month

According to a report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) released on Friday, June 26, the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Haiti increased by more than 600% between May 22 and June 22 [734 case on May 22 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30839-haiti-covid-19-daily-report-may-22-2020.html to 5,211 cases on June 22 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30839-haiti-covid-19-daily-report-may-22-2020.html ]

"The health indicators are alarming," said OCHA, whjose the study was conducted in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

"Insufficient protocols to prevent the spread of the virus in health centers unrelated to Covid-19 pose a problem for the general delivery of health services across the country," the report said.

"Several health centers have closed or refused to accept patients because they were not sufficiently prepared to prevent the spread of the virus and to protect health workers" one can read in this report

"Discrimination, social stigma and incidents against suspected or confirmed Covid-19 patients and patient treatment facilities remain a concern," said the report.

OCHA reveals that data from the Directorate of Prison Administration confirm as many as 70 cases of Covid-19 in detention centers, 210 detainees have been tested and 332 suspected cases have been recorded.

In addition, the UN office stresses that the interruption or malfunction of regular health services, especially for maternal health due to the pandemic is a serious concern.
