Haiti - COVID-19 : Risk of health chaos, the Government is taking measures

The 66th virtual Council of Ministers, on December 23, chaired by the Head of State Jovenel Moïse, assisted by his Prime Minister, Joseph Jouthe, was an opportunity to reflect on the increase in Covid-19 cases in Haiti and the risk of possible health chaos after the Christmas or New Year celebrations, according to the report made to the Council of Ministers by the Minister of Health, Ms. Gréta Roy.

Rather than stopping the popular fervors, which prefers to feast and have fun, the Government has decided to support the populations by setting up a vigilance group made up of Ministers, Secretaries of State, executives of the public service, doctors, professionals from the national ambulance center, senior officers of the Haitian National Police (PNH), artists, promoters and organizers of cultural events, will be assisted by the Ministry of Public Health and security institutions including the PNH.

Pradel Henriquez, the Ministry of Communication informs that it is planned that agents of the PNH and public health can intervene as observers, in all cultural activities bringing together crowds, whatever the nature and content of the activities for support, raise awareness and protect participants during and after the program.

This strategic and technical support unit for artistic and cultural programs concerns especially large crowds, targets the four corners of the national territory which must continue to celebrate while protecting themselves against a potential explosion of Covid-19 .

Minister Henriquez reminded the Haitian population that the coronavirus is still killing the country https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32617-haiti-covid-19-haiti-special-report-280.html pending a new plan that takes into account the new health situation, its Ministry in collaboration with that of Public Health, requires that the population respect barrier measures, such as, for example, wearing a mask, or washing their hands frequently, during this period and until further notice, if we want to escape a red alert and possible re-containment.
