Ronald Gérard D’Mézard, Minister of Youth and Sports met on March 25 with Hans Larsen, President of the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH) in order to harmonize the interventions of the two institutions.

The harmonization of these two highest national sport authorities is an important step towards better support (technical, financial) for the sports federations called upon to ensure the development of their respective disciplines across the country and to prepare the athletes to represent the country in international competitions.

Agenda of the meeting :

• Haiti’s participation in the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games which will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021;

• Development of a funding strategy for federations;

• The organization of a meeting with the private sector to present the tax code and its advantages for the financing of sport;

• The signing of a memorandum of understanding on high performance sport;

  The difficulties encountered by the national Olympic football selection in Guadalajara, the acquisition of tracksuits and other authentic outfits for the Haitian delegation which will parade at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Games, the list of federations affiliated to the COH, the funding of the preparation of Haitian athletes qualified for the Olympics were also discussed during this meeting.

Note that Haiti "should" be represented, according to the Minister, by 12 athletes at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games in 7 disciplines:

Athletics: 2

Swimming: 2

Judo: 2

Boxing: 2

Karate: 2

Taekwondo: 1

Weightlifting: 1
