Haiti - COVID-19 : 86.7% of Haitian children have not benefited from distance education

A survey carried out by the NGO Care and the UN in 2020 on the impact of Covid-19 in Haiti, reveals that during the pandemic, only 5.6% of families benefited from online education for their children provided by some schools.

86.7% of households could not benefit from this distance education service for their children, citing as the main reason that their schools did not offer this possibility.

In addition, according to the survey, other reasons are mentioned justifying the impossibility for their children to follow online lessons during the pandemic, in particular the lack of electricity access 19.0%, internet access 14.9% or the economic inability to pay for these essential services.

A situation which worsens the state of education and above all increases the divide between the well-off and the economically disadvantaged.

As part of this survey of households who do not hide their fear of the year lost by their children and worry about the impact of the health crisis on the economy of the already fragile country.
