Haiti - Politic : «IThere is no Dominican solution to the Haitian situation» dixit the Dominican Government

Sunday July 18, 2021, the Dominican Government asked the international community to help support a "great national dialogue" in Haiti, which it considers the best way to resolve the crisis in this country after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, July 7th.

In a statement, the Dominican Chancellery believes that "it will be possible" to organize a fair, free and transparent electoral process in Haiti "only from a broad, inclusive and good faith political dialogue", which allows the restoration of "democratic legitimacy".

The Chancellery also underlined the importance of involving political leaders, civil society and the business sector in Haiti in this dialogue to find a consensual solution to the political crisis. "We sympathize with the voices of Haiti who call for a major national dialogue to respond to this deep political crisis and this spiral of violence that the neighboring country is going through."

Finally, the Dominican Government also underlined "there is no Dominican solution to the Haitian situation" and reaffirmed the attachment of the country to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. of other states.

Let's recall that last week the Dominican President Abinader had declared during a press briefing "We have decided to facilitate any mediation but not to participate in any situation related to mediation in Haiti." https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34229-haiti-dr-abinader-calls-on-the-international-to-take-responsibility-for-the-crisis-haiti-is-going-through.html
