Haiti - Security : Haiti on yellow alert

The Directorate General of Civil Protection (DPC) and the Hydrometeorological Unit and the Permanent Secretariat for Risk and Disaster Management (SPGRD) have decided to place Haiti on yellow alert as the sixth tropical depression of the season progresses through the Great West Indies.

This depression, which hit the Caribbean islands this morning, could turn into a tropical storm today.

According to the last trajectories she could take, she may cross the northern coast of Haiti to arrive tomorrow Wednesday evening. The sixth tropical depression could cause heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and wind gusts mainly in the northern, western, southern and southeastern regions of the country.

It brings major threats of landslides and floods, especially in the northern part of the country.

As of today, the Directorate General of Civil Protection in collaboration with the Hydrological Unit and the Permanent Secretariat for Risk and Disaster Management urge the population to remain vigilant, to continue to monitor meteorological information and to put into practice the advice of the authorities, before, during and after the passage of the climatic event.
