Haiti - Humanitarian : Donation of 1,000 tonnes of rice from Taiwan

Friday, December 31, 2021, during a reception ceremony organized at the premises of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), the Government of Taiwan (Republic of China), via its Ambassador accredited to Port-au-Prince, Wen-Jiann Ku, donated 1,000 metric tons of rice to Haiti with a total value of $1.7 million, intended for the most disadvantaged social strata, in the presence of the Minister of Social Affairs Odney Pierre Ricot, Charles Ernest Chatelier, Director General of FAES and executives of the institution.

Charles Ernest Chatelier expressed his gratitude to the Taiwanese people declaring that this donation is timely given that the socio-economic crisis prevailing in the country, especially in the great south after the earthquake of August 14, 2021 https: //www.haitilibre .com / article-34681-haiti-seisme-last-report-of-civil-protection.html emphasizing that through this donation, the FAES will have in-kind resources for the implementation of the "Kore pèp" program including one of the components is to provide dry ration food aid to families living in precarious conditions.

Minister Pierre Ricot also presented his thanks to the Taiwanese people on behalf of the Government and stressed that the generosity of the Taiwanese government has always been shown to bring relief to the Haitian people.

For his part, Ambassador Ku, noted that food insecurity was serious in Haiti and recognized that this aid was not sufficient, but that his country wished through this donation "to show solidarity with Haiti, a brother country, in order to help the Haitian Government to face the most pressing challenges."

Wen-Jiann Ku took the opportunity to salute the quick reaction of the FAES during the earthquake of August 14. "Thanks to the dynamism of FAES employees and the leadership of its director general, Taiwanese aid was able to be deployed in the disaster areas the day after the earthquake through the 'Kore pèp' program that Taiwan funds," adding "With this contribution to the most deprived Haitian families, the Taiwanese Government wishes to support the Haitian Government to face the most pressing challenges. Because without food security, there will be no social security.
